Bankstown Airport Aerodrome Access Road Drainage Upgrade
Bankstown Airport is the premier general aviation airport and a major commercial centre in Sydney that operates on a 24/7 basis. Home to more than 160 businesses, Bankstown Airport plays an important role as a major commercial centre within the Canterbury-Bankstown region. It serves as a flying base for Emergency Services, major flying schools and small to medium-size air freight, aircraft maintenance, charter and private business flights.
The Airport is identified as one of four Trade Gateways in the South District and its development as an economic catalyst for the South District is identified as one of the overall 18 Planning Priorities (Planning Priority S8). It identifies that the Airport site and the established Milperra industrial area, have ready access to air transport, road and rail freight networks, the proposed Moorebank intermodal terminal, Liverpool and Bankstown activity centres and the Liverpool health and education precinct.
Transport for NSW is proposing to upgrade a 1.3-kilometre length of Henry Lawson Drive, from Keys Parade, Milperra, to Tower Road, Bankstown Aerodrome. The proposed development of Southwest Precinct of the airport also included internal road upgrades.
Sparks+Partners was engaged by Sydney Metro Airports to provide civil engineering consultancy service for Bankstown Aerodrome Access Road Drainage Upgrade and Design required for ABC Submission.
Civil Engineering –Access Road Drainage Design
- Undertake site inspection to confirm site opportunities and constraints;
- Review existing survey and prepare survey scope of work to obtain additional survey if required;
- Review airport stormwater management masterplan;
- Review local council and relevant guidelines for stormwater management;
- Undertake review of existing pavement grading to establish high/low points and catchment areas;
- Undertake preliminary drainage calculations and prepare and provide preliminary sketch design of proposed siteworks and stormwater management system for coordination with the design team;
- Review comments received from design team and undertake:
- Final design of siteworks including pavement, kerb and landscape restoration works;
- Final detailed stormwater drainage design calculations to confirm stormwater drainage infrastructure sizing and details, including OSD (DRAINS Modelling) and stormwater treatment measures (MUSIC Modelling);
- Prepare and provide detailed CAD documentation (PDF and DWG format) of the following to support ABC submission/Construction:
- Erosion and Sediment Control plans and details;
- Stormwater Drainage plans and details (including OSD and water treatment measures);
- Siteworks plans and restoration details;
- Provision of design summary report and design certification of the Civil Engineering design.
