Jemena Head Office & Training Facility

Jemena owns and operates a diverse portfolio of energy and water transportation assets across Australia’s east coast. With more than $9 billion of major utility infrastructure, the company supplies millions of households and businesses with essential services.

Sparks+Partners was engaged by Ascend Services as part of the workshop design process for the construction of Jemena‘s new head office and cutting-edge gas Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas (EEHA) training facility.

The brief was to conceive, translate and document the major complex gas and hydraulic works. The complicated gas specs for this facility were extremely challenging as the requirements for a safe, multi-rated, high pressure gas supply zone within a busy training area proved difficult to accommodate.

In conjunction with the plumbing skills of Ascend Services and the on-site building knowledge of FDC Construction & Fitout, Sparks+Partners was able to overcome the high pressure gas work design concerns. Utilising both the face wall and gas regulator location was an integral part of the system and ultimate solution.

The final building blueprint and practical use of the EEHA training facility, featuring multiple purpose opportunities, will play an important role in training many future employees, all from the convenience of Jemena’s head office.

Notably, part of the design investigation covered research into the current training operations undertaken at Chullora TAFE; analysis of the depot and service operations at the existing Sydney Olympic Park depot; detailed vehicle movements and storage requirements; as well as office space.

The 12,700m2 project was completed over seven months and was delivered on time and within budget.
