Ampol Pheasants Nest is the flagship site in a five-year Highway Redevelopment Strategy to invest in cutting-edge service centres along key commuter routes across Australia. Ampol plans to redevelop additional highway sites following the grand opening of the Pheasants Nest Service Centres on the Hume Highway’s northbound and southbound transits.
The centres are mirrored on each side and are an unparalleled upgrade in convenience for visitors, with Ampol and fuel facilities, including AmpCharge charging bays with ultra-fast EV technology.
The Foodary provides food on the go alongside a food court where visitors can select from more than five food outlets. There are outdoor spaces with picnic areas, playgrounds and a fenced off-leash area for dogs with a water fountain. Modern, trucker-only lounges include toilets, showers, and laundry facilities—kitchenettes with filtered and hot water taps and a hot kitchen café. Ampol Pheasants Nests also has a unique heritage garden that showcases the stories of the Dharawal traditional owners.
For Sparks+Partners, a lack of sewer infrastructure involved complex design modifications to preserve the existing sewer treatment plant whilst a new plant on the opposite side of the highway became operational. Our solution included the addition of tanks and pumps to supply sufficient water for potable water and fire hydrant services.
We coordinated with FRNSW and a bushfire consultant to determine the best locations and access points for the fire brigade to conduct safe operations.
