Linfox Healthcare Logistics Distribution Centre

Linfox is Australia’s largest privately owned logistics company. Their Healthcare Logistics division delivers highly sensitive products for some of the world’s best known brands across the pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and medical equipment industries from purpose designed storage and distribution facilities.

Sparks+Partners was approached by Prime Constructions to complete the hydraulic, storm water and fire design for the Linfox distribution centre upgrade. The primary challenge was formulating storm water drainage for a sloping site with a dramatic 6 to 8-metre fall to the street boundary. Housed within the steep setback, the complex development also required incorporation of a 1,200m3 volume on-site storm water detention (OSD) treatment plant.

Our solution was to divide the catchment into separate zones with a large basin and OSD areas. This division, combined with a water treatment zone distributed through a network of compact concrete structures, substantially alleviated water head pressure.

Our design team’s innovative and economical approach resulted in an improved and efficient long-term solution. Savings were gained on the developer’s initial build, and in the future further cost benefits will be found in reduced maintenance and overheads.

This state of the art temperature-controlled pharmaceutical storage and distribution facility by Nettleton Tribe architects included 1,500m2 of offices, an industrial freezer, 800m2 cool room, two secure vaults and a dangerous goods area. Use of thermo mass pre-cast structural panels ensured a high level of insulation and addressed critical security needs.

Completed over 46 weeks on a $31 million budget, the new 27,000m2 national hub expanded the client’s logistics capabilities to cater for increasing future demand.
